To the Editor:— The truth of the conclusions of medical science rests on the solidity of the assumptions leading to the conclusions. It came as a surprise, therefore, to receive in the mail today an informational booklet for physicians that deletes from a purportedly and otherwise completely reproduced article a short paragraph that discusses the assumptions that are introduced by the authors to guard against the unwary acceptance of the conclusions. The reader is not informed of the deletion. The booklet is the latest publication of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. It is number 4 of a series entitled Information for Physicians on the Salk Poliomyelitis Vaccine (February, 1957). The editor is Dr. Thomas M. Rivers, medical director of the National Foundation.
